"The fundamental unit of the new economy is not the corporation but the individual. Tasks aren't assigned and controlled through a stable chain of management but rather are carried out autonomously by independent contractors. These electronically connected freelancers - e-lancers - join together in fluid and temporary networks to produce and sell goods and services. When the job is done, the network dissolves and its members become independent agents again, circulating through the economy, seeking the next assignment"

- Thomas Malone and Robert Laubacher, 'The Dawn of the E-lance Economy', Harvard Business Review

Interpreter

Of Trends, People and Ideas

Conventional interpreters translate one language to another. But is that enough?

We live in a society that is in a state of flux – changing everyday to keep pace with global and local trends – and we feel helpless when we can’t make sense of it.

We interact with people who have multiple dimensions, but fail to understand them.

We come across new ideas almost every day, but often we do not notice them or simply ignore them just because they haven’t been put in the right context.

As a journalist with India's two leading business publications and later as the co-author of the autobiography of one of India’s most versatile entrepreneurs, my job has been to identify and interpret trends, people and ideas.

Business Writer

Co-Author, It Happened In India

Articles published in The Economic Times, Business Today, Media, Knowledege@Wharton

My immediate source of livelihood! I have enjoyed reading and writing on business for more than a decade now. I believe that we need to celebrate entrepreneurship in our country and chronicle the opportunities and success stories that new India provides. Business in India can no longer be explained by the stereotypes of Soorma Bhopali. A marble bust of a dead industrialist at industry association buildings isn't enough. New India needs new icons and I look forward to discovering more of them.

Free Agent

Author, Idea Provocateur, Executive Coach

I am not a specialist at any job. I do not intend to be one.

In a world where creativity, diversity and innovation are taking centre-stage and boundaries of skills, subjects and expertise are getting blurred, I believe in brining on board a holistic picture.

What helps is the diverse environments that I have worked in and my interaction with some of most gifted entrepreneurs, academicians and professionals of our age. I was trained in economics, worked as a correspondent with two of the largest business publications in India, and till recently was an embedded journalist inside one of India’s fastest growing companies.
